The sessions are very interactive and so ideal class sizes are 10-16 to guarantee a good level of feedback for each child.

Cathy’s workshops cover vocabulary enrichment, ideas generation, character development, writing dialogue, different points of view, editing and lots more.  They are carefully designed (and tested) to support the mainstream English teaching activities with the aim of giving children the confidence to write more, more accurately, and to use more adventurous and appropriate vocabulary.  Cathy is also happy for any teachers to sit-in to participate as a CPD activity.

And here’s what schools say:

‘Cathy came to Litchard as part of a Literature Wales funded project, where she came in and introduced our pupils to her impressive series of books and equally impressively – the protagonists of her books – her enormous Irish Wolfhound, Mojo!  The children were hooked straight away and the magic reading wand was waved!  We chose to follow this up with a MAT reading project over several weeks for year 5 and 6 pupils.  They were a big success with both the boys and the girls.  Cathy covers both fact and fiction – having been a journalist and a published author – and is able to inspire the pupils to write confidently in a variety of genres.  Importantly, there was clear impact on both attitude and standards on all children involved.  Well organised and from the heart, Cathy offers a bespoke and wide ranging course for writers and readers in a Primary school setting.
